Bring your own kayak, enjoy an afternoon naturalist-led tour on the Salmon River estuary.

This is a Bring your own...Event. Basic requirements include:
Kayak/Canoe
Paddle
PFD (Personal Floatation Device)
Whistle (signaling device)
Non-cotton, Appropriate Apparel (Always dress for the water temperature which is cold.
Other Safety Equipment: Bilge Pump or Bailer, throw rope, float bags.
Waterway Access and Aquatic Invasive Species Permit (10' or longer boats)

Kayaking in the Moonlight
Flatwater Kayak / & Canoe: Join the Cascade Head Biosphere Collaborative for a paddle in the moonlight on the Salmon River. Bring your own kayak or canoe, Paddle, PFD, light, and your whistle and set off from Knight Park for an 1 1/2 hour paddle in the moonlit (clouds permitting) estuary.
Fee: $25 per person

Art on the Beach 2023 continues with an event at Roads End State Recreation Area this time. Incorporated into this days events will be a Community Sand Art Competition where groups of up to four can register for a chance to win prizes for their own Sand Art.

What: Join us for Art on the Beach - Community Competition!
When: This inaugural event is happening on Saturday, Aug 5th 2023 starting at 8:30 am.
Location: The venue is located at Roads End State Recreation Area on Logan Road in Lincoln City, Oregon.
Prizes: 1st Place: Chinook Winds Casino Resort Weekend Getaway, Two Nights Oceanfront Room, plus Dinner for Two ($425 value); 2nd Place: $200; 3rd Place: $100
Drone Image: We will be flying a drone to capture each entry’s sand art, which will be provided to each team via email.

Theme: Cascade Head Biosphere Region inspired art! Entries should be some type of life from the sea, for instance an octopus, a crab, or seaweed which thrives in Oregon's UNESCO Biosphere Region and Marine Reserve at Cascade Head.
This is an incredible opportunity for artists of all levels to showcase their talent and creativity. Whether you're a seasoned artist or just starting out, this community competition welcomes everyone to participate and celebrate the Cascade Head Biosphere Region through sand art.
During the event, you'll have the chance to create your own masterpiece right on the beach. You will be working next to featured artist, Duncan Berry and his team of volunteer rakers who are creating a giant piece of sand art spelling out BIOSPHERE and bringing the life sustaining ocean condition of UPWELLING to light through a creative sand art design.
Judging: At the end of the competition, a panel of judges will evaluate the artworks and select the winners. Prizes will be awarded to the most outstanding pieces, so be sure to bring your A-game! Judging will take place starring at 10:30 a.m.
Who: You and up to three others! Each team can be up to 4 participants. Grab your rakes, invite your friends, and join us at Art on the Beach - Community Sand Art Competition.

“POWERFUL PLANKTON”
Learn how our very lives depend on these microscopic sea creatures.
Join us on Tuesday August 24th at 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the Lincoln City Cultural Center to hear from leading artists and scientists about the secret lives of the microscopic marine plants and animals that support all life on earth. Plankton provide not only food for fish and whales they
create over half of the oxygen we breathe!
Join OSU marine scientists Becky Smoak and Jennifer Fisher and renowned plankton artist Rebecca Welti at LCCC for a lively presentation and Q and A session at the intersection of the creative arts and natural sciences.
Scientists will discuss impacts of climate change on plankton including how increasing ocean temperatures here in the Pacific Northwest are affecting local plankton communities and what that means to each of us, and our artist will show her innovative work depicting the beauty and function of these remarkable creatures . Audience members are invited to share their experiences with the ocean and ideas for engaging the public with future Citizen Science/Art collaborations.

Art on the Beach - Plankton
Day 2 - Plankton. Featured Artist Rebecca Welti. Starting again in the morning hours of as the tide recedes, our sand rakers will help bring the microscopic plankton to the macroscale. The beaches in front of the Chinook Winds Casino Resort, which lie within the Cascade Head Biosphere Reserve will temporarily be transformed in Day 2 of “Art-on-the-Beach”. As they say the tide waits for no one, so be sure to come out and see the the ocean shore as it serves as a giant canvas, featuring art that will connect you to the ocean in a brand new way. Art on the Beach is a collaboration between the Cascade Head Biosphere Reserve, the 4CAST Project and their community partners, the Chinook Winds Casino Resort and Explore Lincoln City.
